  1.                  KTShopper v2.20 - The On-Line Shopping Center
  2.                          LATE BREAKING INFORMATION

  5.      First of all- THANK YOU for all the comments and suggestions!
  6.  
  7. THE DOCUMENTATION COMES IN TWO FORMATS, KTSHOPER.WP (WordPerfect), and
  8. KTSHOPER.DOC (TEXT). New or changed information in the Manual is
  9. Underlined in the WordPerfect format.

  11. Please see WHATSNEW.DOC for information about new features.
  12.  
  13. This version of KTShopper now uses a KEY file instead of writing the
  14. registration information to the actual executable. Please see the
  15. KTSHOPER.KEY file for more information on registering this copy of
  16. KTShopper.

  18. UPDATING AN EXISTING KTSHOPPER VERSION:
  19. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  20. *** Version 2.2x to 2.31 ***
  21.     Preperation: Startup SYSOP and select Configure. Write down all your
  22.     current information as you'll be deleting the configuration file.
  23.     
  24.     1) Make a temp directory to unarchive v2.31 into.
  25.     1-a) Be sure to play around with KTShopper, it's all ready to go.
  26.          Simply type KTSHOPER at the dos prompt and give 'er a wirl!
  27.          This way you'll be able to see some of the new features.
  28.     2) Copy the following files to your permenant KTShopper Directory:
  29.         KTSHOPER.EXE
  30.         SYSOP.EXE
  31.         TMPORD.DBF
  32.         ORDER230.*
  33.         ORDET230.*
  34.         CUST230.*
  35.         SHOP230.*
  36.         OWNER*.*
  37.     3) Go to your permenant KTShopper Directory where you just copied
  38.        the above files and type KTSHOPER UPDATE230.
  39.     4) Delete your current configuration file (CONFIG.KTS) and create
  40.        another by starting SYSOP and select Configure. Use the
  41.        information you previously wrote down.
  42.     4) Now select the Refresh option.
  43.     5) If you are interested in using the KTShopperSO! companion
  44.        product, please review the file called RENTAL.WP/.DOC.

  46. *** Version 2.2x to 2.30 ***
  47.     1) Make a temp directory to unarchive v2.30 into.
  48.     2) Copy the following files to your permenant KTShopper Directory:
  49.         KTSHOPER.EXE
  50.         SYSOP.EXE
  51.         TMPORD.DBF
  52.         ORDER230.*
  53.         ORDET230.*
  54.         CUST230.*
  55.         SHOP230.*
  56.         OWNER*.*
  57.     3) Go to your permenant KTShopper Directory where you just copied the
  58.        above files and type KTSHOPER UPDATE230.
  59.     4) Start the Sysop program and 'Refresh'.
  60.     5) If you are interested in using the KTShopperSO! companion products,
  61.        please review a file called RENTAL.DOC
  62.  
  63.     *NOTE* This update procedure will simply keep your current KTShopper
  64.     up and running. There are several other 'new' files with v2.30 which
  65.     demonstrate some of the new features. We recommend you go back to
  66.     that temp directory and 'play around' with v2.30.

  68. *** Version 2.1x to 2.20 ***
  69.  
  70.     1) Make a temp directory to unarchive v2.20 into.
  71.     2) Copy the following files to your permenant KTShopper Directory:
  72.             KTSHOPER.EXE
  73.             SYSOP.EXE
  74.             KTSLOG.DBF
  75.             TMPORD.DBF
  76.     3) Now the worst part. Delete the file CONFIG.KTS. You should take a
  77.        look at your current configuration first, but I'm pretty sure there
  78.        isn't anything there you can't remember.
  79.     4) Start SYSOP and Re-Configure.
  80.     5) That's it!

  82. *** Version 2.0x to 2.20 ***
  83.  
  84.     1) Make a temp directory to unarchive v2.2x into.
  85.     2) Copy the following files to your permenant KTShopper Directory:
  86.             KTSHOPER.EXE
  87.             SYSOP.EXE
  88.             KTSLOG.DBF
  89.             TMPORD.DBF
  90.     3) Start SYSOP and select the Shops option. Write down the SHIP_FILE
  91.        names on a piece of paper and exit SYSOP.
  92.     4) Type KTSHOPER UPDATE201.
  93.     5) Enter the names of your SHOP_FILEs one at a time and KTShopper
  94.        will do the rest.
  95.     6) Now the worst part. Delete the file CONFIG.KTS. You should take a
  96.        look at your current configuration first, but I'm pretty sure there
  97.        isn't anything there you can't remember.
  98.     6) Again, start SYSOP. Refresh the Data and Re-Configure.
  99.     7) That's it!

  101. *** Version 1.xx to 2.20 ***
  102.  
  103.     I'm sorry to say, version 1.x data files are not compatible with 2.x.
  104.     This was a big factor in the design of version 2.x but could not be
  105.     avoided. I apologize for this extreme inconvenience (especially if your
  106.     Products.dbf file is filled to the gills). If this is a real problem for
  107.     you, I could come up with a conversion program however it'll take some
  108.     time. Let me know if this is a big problem for you and I'll do my best
  109.     to work something out. This new version will continue to be expanded on
  110.     using the same format so this should never happen again. The reason it
  111.     was set up this way is to allow for further enhancements as well as
  112.     providing an interface to the upcoming Accounting System for KTShopper.
  113.  
  114. REGISTRATION UPGRADE:
  115. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  116. Upgrading from v2.x to 2.31
  117.  
  118.      Your registration code will remain the same however, there is a
  119.      different procedure to give this information to KTShopper. Please
  120.      find a file called KTSHOPER.KEY and follow the instructions
  121.      included.

  123. Upgrading from v1.x to 2.30
  124.  
  125.     If you are a current Registered User of KTShopper and have
  126.     registered version 1.x prior to September 1, 1992, you will receive
  127.     version 2.31 at no additional charge (and will receive upgrades at
  128.     no charge for ever as promised). To get your Registration Code, call
  129.     the BBS and leave a message to the SysOp with the name you want
  130.     KTShopper Registered to (EXACTLY), and we'll reply with your Code.
  131.     Please use the BBS for upgrades prior to September 1, 1992.
  132.  
  133.     If you register/registered version 1.x after August 31, 1992 , you
  134.     have two options: (1) Continue using version 1.x, or (2) Upgrade to
  135.     Version 2.31 for an additional $15.00
  136.  
  137. ADVANCED DOS CONFIGURATION:
  138. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  139.     The following configuration options are for advanced users who
  140.     understand the DOS Environment and memory configurations.
  141.  
  142. Setting the CLIPPER DOS Variable:
  143.  
  144.     You can change the way in which KTShopper runs on your system by
  145. changing the CLIPPER Variable. You should add this statement to your
  146. Autoexec.bat file so it's set each time your machine is booted.
  147.  
  148.     Syntax for the CLIPPER variable:
  149.  
  150.     SET CLIPPER=[E<nExpandedKB>]
  151.                 [;DYNK:<nKB>]
  152.                 [;SWAPK:<nKB>]
  153.                 [;SWAPPATH <"cDriveDirFile">]
  154.                 [;CGACURS]
  155.  
  156.     E<nExpandedKB> The E option limits the amount of expanded (LIM) memory
  157. KTShopper will use. Expanded memory is not allocated dynamically. Normally,
  158. all of the available expanded RAM in the system (up to 8 Meg) is allocated
  159. for the VMM.
  160.  
  161.     DYNK:<nKB> This option controls how much memory is allocated to the
  162. dynamic overlay system. By default, Clipper applications allocate a
  163. percentage of free memory for the dynamic overlay area. Tinkering with this
  164. option is not recommended!
  165.  
  166.     SWAPK:<nKB> This option limits the size of the swap file used by the
  167. VMM. Disk file swapping is used only after all memory is exhausted. If no
  168. Expanded Memory is available in the system, disk swapping occurs when
  169. conventional memory is full. If you limit the amount of disk space that the
  170. swap file can use, KTShopper may fail.
  171.  
  172.     SWAPPATH <"cDriveDirFile"> This option is used to specify a path where
  173. the swap file is written by the VMM. If not specified, the current directory
  174. is used.
  175.  
  176.     CGACURS This option can be used on older machines that do not support
  177. the EGA/VGA extended cursor settings. This option can be used to avoid
  178. problems sometimes seen when  Clipper Applications are run in a multitasking
  179. environment or when memory resident programs are loaded into memory. This
  180. option is recommended if you'll be running KTShopper as a Door in a BBS.
  181.  
  182.     BADCACHE This argument is used to prevent conflicts when a disk caching
  183. program that also uses expanded memory misbehaves. This can occur when the
  184. cache software does not expect expanded RAM to be used by any other software
  185. on the system. When you provide this argument to the Clipper Variable, VMM
  186. stabilizes itself at every turn. Use the BADCACHE argument as a temporary
  187. workaround while you find another caching program to use.
  188.  
  189. To create a Clipper Variable, use the SET command. For example at the DOS
  190. prompt you might enter:
  191.  
  192.     SET CLIPPER=SWAPPATH:"c:\bbs\swap";cgacurs
  193.  
  194. This Clipper Variable specifies a directory for the swap file, and turns off
  195. enhanced cursor options.

  200.     If you have comments about KTShopper (good or bad) please tell us.
  201.     This version of KTShopper was created from the minds of many users
  202.     who provided feedback. Without these comments, KTShopper would
  203.     probably fall into the Software Pit, never to return and succeed. We
